Weight Management With Snacks

in Weight Loss

The human body is programmed to send out the hunger signals whenever it needs energy. This usually
happens in between the meals. The stores of carbohydrate (glycogen) in the liver and muscles that help maintain a normal level of blood sugar are able to provide us the energy for 4 to 6 hours if we do not eat anything in the mean time. Eating helps in replenishing those stores once again, and controlled snacking help in the same too.

It has been demonstrated by various clinical as well as field trials that properly handled snacking can help you lose weight by keeping your blood sugar levels stable so that you do not feel hungry in between the major meals. The problem comes when we do not handle the snacks properly, and eat them even when we are not feeling hungry. For instance, there are more than 68 percent Americans that eat something while watching TV, attending some game, or even eating out of boredom. This kind of eating is usually supplemented by poor choice of nutrients for snacks-such as potato chips, chocolates, candies, nachos, and other junk food. This can result in weight gain if you develop a habit of eating when you are not hungry actually.

Smart snacking does not need some extra efforts to but it does require a proper knowledge about the snacks you consume. You should do one simple thing-avoid foods that contain trans fats. Instead, try to include more natural products as snacks in your daily diet-such as fruits, raw vegetables salad, low-fat yogurt with herbs etc. The key point is you can make any raw or natural product your past time meal, and adding a little creativity can result in an equally tasty and healthier snack. Weight management can be done quite successfully with snacks if they do not contain fats and include high fiber content. You will feel less hungry with frequent small meals or snacking, and that will result in weight loss eventually if you are able to plan a smart snacking.

We will elaborate more what exactly smart snacking is in the next post. Until then, eat healthy and stay healthy!
