We are writing about this colorant or food additive separately here, because it is used very commonly and is associated with some serious problems, specially in the susceptible people.
Yellow colorant #5, or better known as tartrazine in the food market and grocery
stores, should be watched out. It has been linked with adverse reactions in sensitive people who are typically
aspirin intolerant, allergic, or asthmatic. Symptoms may include hives, itching, runny nose, and asthma. This dye is the
only dye that must be identified by name on food labels. Although it does not represent a major risk to most people, its use in children’s medications for giving them color, is clearly inappropriate.
