Laser treatment for acne has been there for a long time, and due to its effectiveness, it is vastly replacing the other traditional treatments of acne cure and removal. Antibiotics are becoming increasingly less effective due to their excessive use; therefore, more and more people now prefer to opt for this latest technique. In laser resurfacing, the physician performing the operation holds a laser pen in his/her hands exactly above the acne scar or lesion, and waves the laser beam (which is a concentrated beam of light) back and forth to vaporize
the affected tissue. This leads to the removal of only the unwanted tissue and new surface for newer skin cells to grow is created. Therefore, this technique is also known as “Laser Resurfacing”. After this technique is performed, newer collagen forms at the treated area.
Laser resurfacing is a painless method and it is very safe for any age group. There can be some post-procedural side effects like, bruises, swelling and redness of the area. However, they are all temporary and do not last longer than 7 to 10 days. Patients are often advised (mainly females) to avoid applying any make-up on the affected area before it heals completely.
At present, there are no legal restrictions for the use of this treatment. Any qualified practitioner with an experience in using this technique is allowed to perform it. Laser treatments are available for more than one problem. Therefore, you should make sure, if you want to visit a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon for the same. Always ask if your doctor is properly trained in performing this technique, and inquire about the equipment used by the doctor if he/she owns it or rents it. Inquire about the before treatment and after treatment pictures of previous patients, and find how many laser equipments the doctor possesses. Also, ask for how many times those equipments are being used.
