Adolescents are also known as teen acne, hormonal acne and sometimes acne adolescent. Whatever be their name, they can be frustrating, embarrassing, and quite painful to deal with.

In the teenage, if you develop acne, it can be quite devastating emotionally because at this stage of life people are most conscious about their appearance. They can affect your ego and can often result in teasing among the fellow mates. It can also lead on to depression if the things keep on going in a viscous cycle.
In this phase of life, almost every teenager develops occasional whiteheads, blackheads and pimples or zits. Acne is more commonly seen in the age group of 12 years to 20 years. They are often due to fluctuating hormonal levels. When the hormonal levels stabilize, adolescent acne tends to disappear with time.

So, what can be the best method to deal with them and prevent them? The easiest method that any teenager can do is to take good care of his/her skin in general and eat health, well-balanced food. Keeping the skin oil and dust free helps in preventing infection of pre-existing acne. Skin cleaning might not be a treatment for acne but it surely prevents excessive breakouts and abscess formation.
Another method is by keeping the skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water daily. Water requirements also increase during this age group due to increased growth and increased physical and mental activity. Girls should use cosmetics with care and should prefer using oil-free ones. Using mild scrub on your face every week also helps to remove dead skin debris. Gentle exfoliation also aids in opening the skin pores.

Mild forms of acne can be treated with conventional methods of treating acne and there is less need to use medicines in this case. Medicines are usually reserved for server cases. Benzoyl peroxide gel based creams or retinoic acid-formulations often help in treating acne. However, they should be used always after proper consulting with your dermatologist.

Severe cases should always be treated be medicines and only after the consultation with your physician.
